Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is coaching?

Coaching is the process used to unlock an individual's potential to enable them to have the confidence and skills to manage their work–life balance and achieve their aspirations. It is about looking forward and achieving the goals. But this can only be achieved through commitment from both parties.

  2. What makes coaching creative?

Coaching is not just about sitting in a room using the client practitioner set up. It is about working with the client using the environment and opportunity around us to maximise their potential.

For example: one client was nervous around new people, so working together we used a variety of traditional and creative interventions including salsa dancing as part of the journey to building social confidence.

  3. What is not coaching?

Coaching is not counselling. It is about facilitating the client. It does not dwell on your past or accept your past as a reason for why you cannot move forward to where you want to be. Coaching also does not deal with specific financial, legal or medical issues. With the exception that LikemindId does have a coach who specialises within the area of dyslexia.

  4. What is the role of a coach?

Coaches are professional trainers accredited through organisations such as the British Psychological Society. They are there to help discover what you want, and to develop your potential.

A coach is to support you and facilitate your development journey. They will use tools and techniques to direct your thinking and provide you with guidance. However, a coach should not pass judgment or make decisions for you.

  5. What is the process a coach follows?

A coach generally facilitates their client through the stages below over a course of sessions to enable you to achieve your aspirations. This involves:

    >   Agreeing the coaching approach.
    >   Defining your goals.
    >   Defining where you are at.
    >   Creating measurable and realistic targets.
    >   Development plan to meet aspirations.
    >   Delivering the plan.
    >   Monitoring and celebrating success.
    >   Responding to feedback and shaping the journey.

The key aim of the coach is to enable a client to be confident to self manage their own work life issues. Be able to refer back to the coach for ongoing support as and when required.

  6. What are the different types of coaching?

There are several different types of coaching including:

    >   Life Coaching
    >   Career Coaching
    >   Team Coaching

Contact Likemindid for further information & prices related to the above services

  7. What qualifications does a coach require?

Coaches come from a variety of differing backgrounds including human resources, counselling, psychology and education. To choose a coach they should be affiliated with a governing body. For example at Likemindid Nicola James is affiliated with the British Psychological Society.

  8. How does coaching take place and what is involved?

Coaching is a series of confidential sessions that take place face to face. Prior to the initial session a free telephone consultation will take place so that the client and the coach can clarify their goals and queries can be answered.

  9. How many sessions will I require?

Each client will have an individual requirement. Ideally six sessions would be recommended to begin with, occurring every week/fortnightly. But the key to coaching is enabling the client to become empowered to deal with their issues. Therefore, over time the number of sessions should be reduced. Likemindid include an aftercare service where you can e-mail or phone for advice if required.
